Thanks for your comment, Halley. As far as immigrants having rights, you might want to look at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other documents the U.S. government has signed but not implemented, as in the case of those international laws regarding the sovereignty U.S. corporations and the U.S. military regularly and violently violate. Oh, and you might want to actually read my piece, where I ask real African Americans about their opinions. So, you might want to let go of that other, rather irksome Jim Crow-era habit of speaking for black people. Gracias.

JUAN CROW IN GEORGIA

Juan Crow do not exist except in minds of those who think they are "immigrants" when they are "Illegal aliens" and there is a difference in the way immigrants are treated and the way illegal immigrants are. American do not like anyone who enteres this country illegally no matter where they are from.
It is an insult to Afro-Americans to refer to illegal aliens as be treated as Jim Crow.
That allegation do not fly and never will. Illegal aliens do not have a right to be here, a right to civil rights are to be treated any way except arrested and deported with their children no mattere where they were born.

If they do not like the way they are being treated, they can leave and they can not come.

We do not change our laws to please anyone who breaks our laws. Illegal aliens will always be treated like the criminals they are.

If we do not enforce our laws, we are a lawless nation. Never will that be.

Juan Crow in Georgia.

Hmph. I think that first comment speaks for itself.

My wife made a point this morning that I thought was good. She said the main obstacle in the immigration debate is ignorance. Most people don't know much about the contours of the situation, and only know whatever bumper sticker message they have heard five times or so which is usually what restrictionist water-carriers have been repeating ad nauseam on cable and talk radio: "illegal means illegal," "what part of illegal ...," "get a brain, morans," etc. Once the issue is placed in context, once people realize these are real people dying, real families being ripped apart, and on what tenuous grounds this is all being justified, then their perspective often changes. My wife teaches college, and she sees this happen in her Media and Identity class when she does her class on immigration.

Bernstein, Lawrence Downes, Julia Preston, and you, to name a few, are essential in getting the word out to educate people who won't otherwise understand the terrible things that are happening. And yeah, this story coming after the Baichu piece (USCIS employee coercing sexual favors from green card applicants) shows Bernstein is breaking some incredible stories.

I love the beautiful wide open spaces of the beautiful southwest desert. It is so sad to walk through what should be pristine wilderness and find the results of people leaving , daily, truck loads of garbage. It is so disgusting that when occasionally I run aross a human skeleton that , God help me, I briefly think " serves them right for creating a garbage dump here. Yes , I know desperate people do desperate things with no thought of the consequences. What is the matter with a nation Like Mexico, so full of riches and rich people that they keep so many of their people in such desperate poverty that they will do almost anything to get away. Then to their to their sorrow they find America is becoming as poverty stricken as Mexico. A few, very rich, with the majority getting poorer and poorer . Until at last, the great dream becomes the horror that they so desperately tried to leave.

Illegal immigrants are criminals, period. Thats why it's called illegal. Controlling who and what comes into a country is key to its sovereignty. These people are breaking the law when they come here illegally. They don't pay taxes, they essentially don't have an identity. They can freely break American laws (and the worst that can happen is they get sent back to their country) and many actually do. They cause undo destruction on our economy and threaten to take jobs away from people who came here legally and whose great great grand parents came here legally and have been here for hundreds of years.

Just because these idiots over-populated and overbred their own country doesn't mean that we have to take them in like stray animals. They are not the responsibility of the people of the United States. They come here to drain our economy and our social policies, they commit crimes ranging from larceny to rape and murder. Defending them only shows what a fool you really are.

I have enjoyed a few of your articles, have not read enough to think you are (the) better, however, enough to admit I would join your efforts. My dreams are a bit like yours... I like your concept of creating such a border-less mythical city/state in which, or where to WELCOME the souls of the compassionate and thus fair people. You can see them, I am sure, they do have a "light", they are a beacon of Peace and yet activism, they shed clarity to the multiculture-constructive state. They are making a path, and I have my tools and I will labor to join the effort, to clear a path for smoothness, for directness, for far reaching collaboration and support - and share of wealth. God has given us for practical purposes to the "latin America" the climate, almost 90% of us come from tropicalamerica, the natural resources, the youth, we can share that. God has given other blessings to others, they all can mix in harmony, and good will.

Stay cool Roberto, we might shall meet one day, I look forward to that.
